Fall cakes

Several years ago, when I was first starting to decorate cakes, my friend Kimberly got married and asked me to do her cake. I realize now that this was very much an act of charity on her part -- I was still a beginner at best. I still have a lot to learn, but I have improved a lot since then. Here is my second attempt at a wedding cake:

Although a little stressful, this was a really fun cake to do. The bride sent me a few photos of cakes she liked and let me design the cake from there. The tiers were 6" tall to enhance the tapered effect. The bride chose flavors to match the theme, too -- one tier was orange cream and the other was chocolate mint (okay, it's not quite black, but we tried!).

Happy Birthday, Ruby!

My daughter Ruby turned two in November. I started working on ideas for her cake well in advance, and anytime I mentioned it she would say, "Pink, white, yellow!" Unfortunately, when it came time to actually make the cake, I was dealing with morning sickness and had no desire to be anywhere near the kitchen, so I ended up simplifying it a lot. But it was pink, white, and yellow, so Ruby was happy anyway.

These last two cakes were for the teenage children of my husband's coworker. I forgot to write "Happy Birthday" on the blue one until after the picture was taken...that's why there's so much empty space on the top. Do you like my lovely slow cooker in the background? That's right, I'm all about class.

A few more...

Okay, I really need to get more creative with this blog! Until then, here are a few cakes I've done recently.

A few of my cakes....

Several people have asked me recently if I have a blog. Well, now I do. There will be a lot of changes to it as I become more familiar with blogging. Until then, here are a few photos of cakes I've done. Enjoy!
